Is Treating Hair Loss with Herbal Remedies Effective?

Much like the formulation of various saw palmetto extracts, which are currently being marketed as herbal remedies for baldness sufferers, has been greeted with enthusiasm, the need to find a workable solution for female baldness is leading to a plethora of herbal remedies and treatment approaches that are being introduced to the market on a frequent basis. One such treatment option that is quite frequently marketed to women - who are warned away from prostate cancer drugs and other over the counter and prescription medications because of the inherent dangers it presents to those who may be pregnant - is the herbal remedy.

Many an herbal remedy claims that it is a different approach to treating hair loss:

  1. Some herbal remedies are not your average dietary supplement but much rather a scalp treatment system that seeks to work with the hair that is left.
  2. As such, it is not a cure for baldness, but instead could be considered a systematic approach for treating hair loss – in some cases before it occurs.
  3. The herb may have a line of hair care products which include shampoos, cleansers, and also scalp treatment tinctures.
  4. Existing hair is sought to be strengthened from the outside in, seeking to preserve that which may be in danger of being lost. Thereafter, the herb containing products work on preserving the health of the hair and scalp.

Unlike other remedies sold for treating hair loss, herbal remedies are being sold via salon venues, such as your mall chain salon and also independently owned salons. The manufacturers do not claim that treating hair loss with herbal remedies will lead to a head of full hair overnight, but the notion that the use of this product will counteract thinning hair and reverse any damage done to hair which may cause it to fall out is indeed fostered. Those who have been advised by their hair stylists to try the treatment products have reportedly had good results in an increase in the hair’s overall appearance, feeling of thinness, and even re-growth!

While treating hair loss with herbal remedies is considered safe – after all, you do not always have to ingest anything and the goal is to strengthen the existing hair and scalp from the outside in – it is at the same time limited in scope to those who have sufficient hair. In other words, those who are bald may not find the kinds of results they are hoping for. Conversely, male pattern baldness and a heavily receded hairline are usually not part and parcel of the success stories told by users of the various aspects of the treatment system.

It appears that the best candidates for benefiting from the treating hair loss with certain herbs are those who are noticing their hair loss early on and are seeking to counteract it before it may even become obvious to third parties. In many ways, the best kinds of hair loss to be treated with this substance are those that may be related to over styling – such as would be the case with chemical straightening or curling – or other neglectful treatment of the hair and scalp – such as wearing hats, using harsh shampoos, neglecting conditioner use, and exposing hair and scalp to chlorine and sunshine on a frequent basis.
