The Dark Side of Herbal Hair Loss Treatments

In a world where a full head of hair is equated with virility, health, and success, there is nary a man who would not be willing to try even the oddest herbal hair loss remedy it if offered results. As a matter of fact, even the cost does not factor in greatly on the decision to once again welcome enviable tresses on once head, and even though many substance manufacturers are up front in their claims that a certain herbal hair loss treatment must be considered as a life long hair care system in order for the results to last, eager buyers are forever emptying out their wallets in an effort to lay hold of the promised hair growth.

Yet before you join the ranks of eager buyers, it is important to explore the dark side of herbal hair loss treatments. Some statements made of course are innocent enough:

  1. Every person reacts differently to herbal hair loss remedies; thus success cannot be guaranteed on a person to person basis but instead relies on the overall numbers of people who report success with the treatment.
  2. Many herbal treatments that claim to cure hair loss also state that the substance needs to be used for a certain period of time – months and even years – for the effects to become visible.
  3. There is no telling if a certain hair loss remedy would have worked on a person; yet because this individual also took medication – sometimes something as innocuous as a headache pill – the results may be skewed.

It is obvious that many of these statements serve to deflect responsibility for non-working herbal hair loss treatments from the manufacturers or sellers of the concoctions. It is equally true that some who enter the marketplace in an effort to offer their wares for the re-growth of hair are actually little more than companies making hair care products. Furthermore, the Food and Drug Administration is not giving its blessing to any of the herbal hair loss products currently being sold online and offline via network marketing efforts, and for this reason alone there is precious little consumer protection.

Women in particular who are looking to remedy hair loss are very vulnerable in this market since the studies which are done with herbal supplements most frequently are conducted on men and not women. Thus it is vital that women are very careful about ingesting any herbal substance as it may interfere with pregnancies and also the hormonal balance within the woman’s body. In addition to the foregoing, both men and women need to consider studies cited with a healthy dose of suspicion, since many an herbal hair loss treatment only underwent a short study, some of which are woefully outdated!

It is a sad reality that the online marketplace has become more a den of thieves when it comes to herbal hair loss treatments than a bona fide market selling high quality wares. It is not unheard of that some concoctions are either made in unsanitary conditions in someone’s private residence, are little more than repackaged substances sold at inflated prices, or simply are supplements which have little if any effect on the hair in particular.
